My friend Kristin and I have been friends for so long now the term only applies as a technicality. She and I are like sisters. My husband always knows who I’m on the phone with because we gab and laugh like we’re still 16. Recently I stayed for a weekend at her house. This past year has been one of upheavals for both of us and I noticed the framed photos on her walls were all attached to bittersweet memories. Camera in hand, I suggested a shoot of just her and her son, for no other reason than that they are family together – not for a wedding, not for a Christmas card, not for a graduation, no other reason. I was surprised when she agreed. For this shoot we strolled a nearly-deserted best-kept-secret on the real Jersey Shore: the boardwalk in Ocean Gate, NJ with its tiny beach on the Barnegat Bay, sailboats bobbing out in the calm waters. I’m really proud of these shots. I feel I captured their bond and their personality. The best part was reminding Kristin of how beautiful she is. Here are a few:
